PRECIOUS BLOOM was a long time in the making. I always knew that I wanted to put my love of sewing to work for me. I started sewing at the age of 10, hand-sewing and embroidering a tea towel in Grade 5, and took to it like a duck to water. I surpassed my mother's sewing ability by the age of 13, took first prize with my first piece of smocking in the Ottawa Exhibition in 1962, and went on in my early 30s to be a student in the very first course offered by the Richard Robinson School of Haute Couture.
Home decorating has always been a passion as well, so I combined my passions and used my talents to dress our home. When I was finally blessed with children, I dressed the nursery to the nines and enjoyed every minute of it. Subsequently, a friend asked me to dress her baby's nursery. However, it wasn't until my daughter was expecting my first grandchild that I realized just how much fun it was to sew for babies and how much joy I felt when making items for the nursery ... and a seed was planted.
My other passion is creating healthier indoor environments, being environmentally sensitive myself and having two children with the same issues. For health reasons, we started wearing 100% cotton, but at the time, very few products were available in cotton for children and I found myself doing a lot of sewing for them.
So with PRECIOUS BLOOM, I have combined my passions of sewing, home decorating and environmental health to create well-made, healthy baby products. Most of my products are made with 100% cotton flannelette, fleece, knit or percale and are available in a wide range of patterns and solids, including organic – all at an affordable price – and made with joy in my heart as I am doing what I truly enjoy!
