Holy cow! You’ve reached your fifth month of pregnancy and nothing is done. And now your nesting instinct has gone into overdrive. Questions you will ask yourself will include what clothing, bedding, furniture, diapers, toiletries, etc., etc., you will need to take care of this new, precious baby that will soon be entering and turning your life upside down – but in a good way?
What should you do first with respect to your baby’s room? Well, I guess the first thing to do is to decide what colour theme you would like to use for baby’s room. Are you having a boy? A girl? Or, have you decided to wait for the wonderful surprise? Whatever your decision is, the time is now to choose your colours.
But wait! Not the colours for your flooring, your paint or wallpaper. The colours you need to select first – as any reputable interior decorator will tell you – are the colours you want for your soft furnishings and bedding – your fabric choices. The reason is simple. It is far easier to take a fabric swatch or swatches to your paint or wallpaper store and to find coordinating paint or wallpaper, than it is to find fabric to match the paint colour or wallpaper that you just fell in love with. So, please, please, please don’t put the cart before the horse. Choose your fabric first.
When choosing fabric, please consider the fact that babies and children are known to be at least 17 times more sensitive than adults. Therefore, it is important, in my opinion, to choose cotton. Washing cotton will release finishing chemicals used in production. However, if you choose fabrics that contain polyester, this is not the case. Cotton is a much healthier choice. The healthiest choice, of course, is organic cotton. However, if cost is a consideration, conventional cotton is still a great choice for your baby.
So, please choose cotton when you make your first “healthy” choice for your baby. Happy shopping!
Precious Bloom Baby Boutique chose cotton for all of our product lines because we know how important it is to have healthy, hypoallergenic products for your baby. We offer both conventional and organic fabric choices.
